2009- just around the corner

Good morning all (or, should I say "good afternoon"?? I was up from 2am-5am so I slept till 11).

Having visited the 12 x 12 group this morning (this is the day they reveal their latest pieces) I decided it's time to go ahead with our group. I am going to follow the same format as the 12 X 12 group in that one person will choose a theme and we will start on the first of the month and have 2 months to complete the piece. We will then post and do a critique.

On the date we post the next person will choose and post the next theme.

All work should be (more or less) 12" x 12"; no specified shape. ANY technique(s) are fair game. experiment!!!! That's what this is all about!

I think there are 4 or 5 of us (going to have to check). I am posting the first theme:

water (one of my favourite things). The starting date will be 1/1/2009 with the work to be posted on 3/1/09.

Post in comments if you have questions.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and are well on your way to having your Christmas shopping done!!

Good Morning Muses

How is everyone? Busy, I assume, from the lack of posts. I have been busy with Christmas gifts. My husband of 14 years would like a quilt. He has complained bitterly that the quilter's husband never has a quilt. So, this year I made a utility quilt from blocks from a ninepatch swap I did many years ago. I added unpeiced blocks and it looks pretty good. A nice scrappy mix of old fabric in the nine patches and new fabric in the unpeiced blocks. I will get the borders on it and to the machine quilter next week. I have been making Christmas pillow cases also for the little kids in my life. To be given before the holiday for sweet Christmas dreams. That has been the sum of my artyness for the time being. My Fabrications peice remains on my design board and it does not know what to do about a corner that is bothering me. At least, it hasn't told me what it wants yet. But, there is time.

I think that a challenge after the first of the year would be great. It would get the flow going after the holiday happenings. I have a couple of ideas. One is to make leaves for the tree that the artist is covering. Another is to make a winter landscape. Some groups pick a word and go from there. Some a theme or season. Just some ideas to throw out there.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

glad to be here

Any ideas on challenges for this group? I have a new thing that I'm exploring and I think it would be great to try to refine it with a few challenges.

Thanks for putting this together Teri!

I did it!

I signed up for this blogger stuff all by myself--and my husband says I'm not "techy"! Thanks for starting this Teri. I think this will be great fun. I have been working on some UFOs from the depths of the closet. I have a new grand niece and found a scrap quilt that is mostly pink and purples that I did as a practice piece on my Handyquilter when I first got it. All it needed was binding. So that is ready to go. I figure that I have at least 5 more tops ready to go with a few additions and some assembly. Maybe Christmas presents for the other grand neices...
Anyway, back to work and hope everyone has a great and productive day!

Thank You

Thank you Teri for organizing this. I think it is going to a lot of fun and a great growth experience for all of us.

Welcome to Fabrication Muses, a group of creative artists working in fiber and mixed media. I will be working on coming up with our first challenge that will start either December 1 or January 1 depending on how the group decides.

Thanks for joining us!!
